Basics of Algebra by Geeks Lesson

Sobre este curso

Algebra is one of the most useful school subjects because it teaches you how to think with structure: identify what you know, represent what you do not know, and use rules to reach a correct result. This free online course on the basics of algebra is designed for beginners who want to strengthen foundations, catch up for school, or prepare for more advanced math. You will practice turning everyday math into clear expressions and simple equations, then learn how to solve for an unknown in a calm, logical way.

Throughout the lessons, you will discover how variables work and why they are so important. A variable is more than just a letter; it is a placeholder for a value you do not yet know or a value that can change. Once that idea clicks, equations become less intimidating and more like puzzles you can solve with consistent steps. You will see how an equation such as a + 10 = 12 is really asking what number must replace the variable to make the statement true, and how to interpret the meaning of that unknown rather than guessing.

The course also focuses on essential properties that make algebra reliable. You will revisit the commutative property of multiplication, recognizing when changing the order of factors keeps the result the same. At the same time, you will learn why subtraction behaves differently and does not share certain properties that addition and multiplication do. Understanding these rules early prevents common mistakes later and helps you explain your reasoning, not just reach an answer.

By the end, you should feel more comfortable reading algebraic statements, choosing the right operation, and solving basic variable equations with confidence. Whether your goal is to improve grades, refresh skills after time away from math, or build a stronger base for future topics, this course gives you practical practice and a clear mental model of how algebra works from the ground up.
