Beginner Drums Lessons by Eric Fisher

Sobre este curso

Starting drums can feel overwhelming: four limbs, new sounds, and the question of what to practice first. This free online course helps you break through that uncertainty by giving you a clear path to playing real grooves from day one. You will begin with the kind of foundational beat that shows up in countless songs, then learn how to add fills that make your playing sound complete, musical, and ready for rehearsal or jam sessions.

Instead of guessing your way forward, you will develop timing and coordination through practical patterns in 4/4, including steady eighth-note grooves and the jump to tighter, more driving sixteenth-note hi-hat feels. Along the way, you will build confidence in counting, so you always know where you are in the bar and how to land cleanly back on the beat after a fill. This approach makes practice more productive because you are not just memorizing motions—you are understanding how beats are structured.

You will also get a beginner-friendly introduction to reading drum notation, a skill that unlocks communication with other musicians and makes it easier to learn new parts accurately. As your grooves get stronger, you will explore tools that give your playing personality, like ghost notes, which add dynamics and texture without cluttering the rhythm. You will practice classic rudiments, including the six-stroke roll, and learn how these sticking patterns translate into smoother fills, better control, and more relaxed hands.

To help you progress safely, the course addresses common pitfalls self-taught drummers run into, so you can avoid bad habits early and stay motivated. Whether your goal is to play rock, join a band, accompany friends, or simply enjoy a new instrument, you will finish with a solid foundation: reliable beats, useful fills, better timing, and a practice mindset you can keep building on. Complete the lessons at your pace and walk away with skills you can hear immediately in your playing.
