English Slang and Idioms by Shaw English

Sobre este curso

Understanding English is one thing; understanding real English is another. In everyday conversations, movies, social media, and workplace chats, people rely on slang and idioms to express emotions, opinions, and situations quickly. This free online course helps you stop translating word by word and start grasping what native speakers actually mean, so you can follow conversations with less effort and respond more naturally.

Instead of treating slang as random vocabulary, you will learn how common expressions work in context, when they sound appropriate, and what tone they carry. You will see how short phrases can communicate big ideas: being out of money, feeling angry, describing someone attractive, complaining that something is disappointing, or saying that something is easy. You will also build intuition for conversational English used in social settings like bars, online communities like gaming, and everyday small talk, including greetings and casual reactions.

The course focuses on meaning, usage, and practicality. You will train your ear for expressions that often confuse learners because their literal meaning does not match the real message, and you will learn polite or neutral alternatives when an expression is too informal or too strong. Along the way, short checks for understanding help you confirm you got the meaning right, reinforcing what you learn and making it easier to recall when you need it.

By the end, you will be better prepared to watch videos without constantly pausing, understand jokes and complaints, and communicate with more confidence in informal conversations. If your goal is to speak with a more natural rhythm, understand friends or colleagues more easily, and recognize the kind of English that rarely appears in textbooks, this course gives you a practical path to get there.
