3 Understanding Firebase Building Mobile Apps with Ionic 4
introduction to ionic in this course we'll be using firebase in combination with ionic so firebase will be acting as a back-end for our mobile application
that we'll be building with ionic but what is firebase firebase is a back-end as a service platform that was initially developed by firebase Inc in 2011 and was later acquired by Google in 2014
firebase offers a lot of services that help developers by saving the trouble of building scalable reliable and always available web servers for modern web and mobile applications the services that
firebase offers include authentication systems real time data storage file storage push notifications and a lot of other services that modern applications need so instead of building all those
services by yourself and setting up your own servers you can just go ahead and use firebase and focus all your time and attention on building a great application of all the services that
firebase offers in this course we'll only be using firebase authentication and cloud firestore firebase authentication is used to manage users in the application so we will be using
firebase auth to let the users sign up and log into our application on the other hand cloud file store is a real-time no sequel database offered by firebase that we'll be learning to use
in this course to store application data to use firebase all you need is a Google account which you probably have so all you need to do is head over to firebase google.com and log in using your Google
account and that's pretty much it to get started with using firebase by default you'll be signed up for a spark plan which is available for all users to be used for free and offers all the
firebase features that you need for this course and even for building big nerd level apps now you might think why we are using firebase and not building our web servers on our own well the short
answer is because it's amazing firebase offers everything that a modern application needs and therefore saves a lot of time and effort that would otherwise go
in building a secure back-end it lets developers focus on building a grid application and it takes care of everything else for us it's secure reliable and fast and
since it's backed by Google we can trust it so now that we know what firebase is let's go ahead and download and install all the prerequisites that we need to get started
with ionic
