Punk Drum Beats – Drum Lessons

In this video lesson we will play some punk beats. Take a look at beat # 1 of the sheet music supplied by us. The score is available on www.FreeDrumLessons.com

As you can see it is a straight groove of quatrains. This groove, playing at a slow tempo, it sounds a bit funny. But increasing speed and keeping the Charleston open

it will have a beautiful full sound. Now I will play it for you. The n.2 is built on the n.1. Let’s take a look at the score. As you can see there is the cash desk on the first one

and on the third century of the first and the third quatrain. Charleston always plays on quatrains and should be left slightly open to fill in the blanks.

Now I play it for you. For the beat n.3 we move on the eighths. This is similar to the eighth beat that we have seen in the past except for the fact

that now we play it at a faster time. In beat n.4 we will move the right hand from Charleston to the Timpano. And we’ll hit the Tom with the left on the third sixteenth of the second quatrain.

The cashier will be on all the quatrains. No.5 is fun. Let’s go back to playing the quatrains on the Charleston. We leave it a little open to fill the empty spaces.

Look at the score. You will see that on the third and fourth sixteenth of the third quatrain there are two quick shots from the Cashier. It will be a bit difficult to play them fast

at the beginning, but once you have learned they will have a beautiful sound. The beat n.6 is built on n.5. We still have the Charleson on the quatrains and then we add a few more Crate shots.

Now I play it for you! All these Punk beats can be so funny. But make sure not to force the speed too soon. I’ve seen a lot of drummers

that they hurt their right arm or to the right leg because they searched to increase speed too fast. Leave at a slow time and you will see that one day you will be able to go fast.
