「Learn Japanese」 How-to Say “am/is VERBing” (Ongoing Action) (て-Form VERB + いる)
「Learn Japanese」 て-Form VERB + いる as Ongoing Action (“am/is VERBing”)
One of the three expressions that the grammar construct て-Form VERB + いる represents is that of an ongoing action, which is very similar to the “am/is VERBing” present-progressive form used in the English language (i.e., “I am reading a book” or “he is sleeping “). However, because the て-Form VERB + いる construct can also be used to express habitual action and resultant states, it is important to be aware of which types of verbs are associated with which expression.
Example (s):
コンピューターを使っています。
Computer wo tsukatte imasu.
(I am using the computer.)
ジョージ·ワシントンは寝ている。
George Washington wa nete iru.
(George Washington is sleeping.)
