Learning how to sing better often reminds me of the process of learning how to golf. I’ve like to teach vocal training using analogies of similar processes we encounter in other areas of our lives.

Simply put, as beginning singing students we often sing way too hard and use way too many muscles and movement than is necessary. This is the same for beginning golfers, who tend to over-swing and exert more energy than necessary.

What we find with proper vocal training and vocal exercises is that we can actually sing louder, better, more pitch-accurate and so on, with LESS effort that is bettered focused. This is much like how we can hit a golf ball much farther with less effort.
