SINGING TIPS | Knowing the Difference Between Resonation and Sympathetic Vibration | VOCAL NEBULA
http://vocalnebula.com. Innovative Vocal Training so you can learn how to sing better much faster than ever before!
The language we use for vocal training has been changing recently. We are moving away from the simple model of “chest voice” and “head voice” to a more accurate model that better empowers us to learn how to sing more effectively than ever before.
One challenge for the beginning vocal student is to learn that there is no such thing as a “chest register”, even though we use that phrase all the time. Sound only resonates in the head and top portion of the throat. This is called “resonation”, much like the way sound resonates in the body of a guitar.
What we feel in our chest while singing low notes is actually sympathetic vibration. We have to be very careful that while doing our vocal exercises and when singing songs, that we don’t try to force sound down into our chest because we think we need to use our “chest voice”. All sound must be driven up into the resonation chamber, regardless of whether we are singing low notes or high notes.
